Amazon and eBay are experimenting with new ways to get what you order online in your hands the same day.

eBay is testing such a model in San Francisco where you pay a fee when you order on your iPhone or iPad to get your item that same day. A similar experiment will or already has rolled out in New York, San Jose, Chicago, and Dallas.

Amazon is experimenting with local express delivery in 10 metro markets. But consider this: You can get free delivery on purchases over $25 in 5-7 days –or- you can pay Amazon $9 for same-day delivery plus a dollar for each item in your order.

I don’t need anything same day that I need to pay $10 for! But I know there will probably be a market for this.

In fact, new research shows 75% of online shoppers want free delivery as the No. 1 thing they want. Being able to return easily is No. 2, while tracking on an order is No. 3. But same day delivery? That’s way down the list.
