Bad customer service now has its own award!

March Madness is here! Here's your chance to vote in a bracket-style tournament to find the worst company in America!

TheConsumerist.com blog does the Worst Company in America elimination each year, starting with 40 companies that are nominated by readers. Then they progressively narrow it down by vote to just 2 companies.

Here's an alphabetized list of the remaining contenders as of Friday, March 28:

  • Bank of America
  • Comcast
  • Facebook

The reality is some companies do good, some do bad, day in and day out. So often we go with the easy choice when we're doing business. "Oh, that bank has a lot of branches, I think I'll bank with them." Or maybe you're forced to buy through Ticketmaster. Or with cable monopolies, you typically only have the choice of the one company where you live.

So some situations you can choose, and in other situations the choice is dictated to you.

Monopolies don't focus on the customer, and that's why cable and phone companies have usually done poorly on the Worst Companies in America list. Under normal business conditions a poorly performing company would cease to exist, but not if there's only limited competition.
