Would you date someone who is unemployed? Traditional gender roles play a bigger part in answering this question than you might think.
Seventy-five percent of women who were asked said they would be unlikely to date a jobless man. Yet when men were asked, less than 20% had the same response. Meanwhile, 4% percent of women unequivocally said a man's employment status makes no difference to them.
So men largely don't care, while women do!
This thing we've had with U6 -- what FOX News calls the "real unemployment" number -- is that the underlying rate of unemployment is really high. I do believe that will improve.
We will have a bump in the road through the election to be sure, because nobody's going to get their act together before then. But eventually, both parties will have to, in some way, have some form of accommodation after messing things up so badly.
I've talked before about how individuals are sitting on trillions of dollars in their savings accounts and CDs. We have to find a way to reinvigorate American capitalism so all that money can be put into play.
And if you're despondent -- or dateless -- don't worry, the jobs will come back too.
