Sears, Darden go to health care vouchers

The move is being watched by corporate America for viability

Sears and Darden Restaurants are ready to give money to employees and allow them to shop for their own health care coverage.

Both midsized employers are going to this employee-choice model, though The Wall Street Journal  reports neither has revealed exactly what kind of voucher money they'll give to employees to go shopping for health insurance.

But you'd better believe that corporate America is watching with bated breath to see if this experiment works!

For those who don't know Darden, they own Red Lobster, Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, The Capital Grille, Bahama Breeze, and Seasons 52. And Sears, of course, owns both Sears and Kmart.

The idea of putting employees back in control of health care costs is one that came out of a conservative think tank. And I love this idea. It moves us closer to where we need to be with you as the consumer, and all the ramifications that has for controlling health care costs.

I think the idea of you upfront deciding what's important in a health plan is really great. We'll see if this is where the marketplace moves.
