Know when to buy electronics

ClarkHoward.com and The Clark Howard Show have more money-saving advice about free Internet

Recently, I talked about a new beta website called ShopoBot.com that's trying to be the place you go to know the best time to buy electronics. Now ShopoBot has a competitor called Decide.com.

Decide.com is starting off in just three categories: TV, digital cameras and computers.

If I click on the TV category, Decide.com first shows me all available TVs for which they have data. It's a quick way to compare prices between models.

Then I can dig deeper and click on a particular TV. The website shows me the best price and retailer, along with aggregated customer reviews and more. There's also a signal, either green for go or red for stop, that tells me if I should buy or wait.

If I get a green, I'm good to go. If I get the red, Decide.com will tell me "Wait for prices to drop $37" or whatever it is the system thinks they'll drop to. Then it will have a prediction along the lines of "Prices will drop or hold steady ($37 on average,)" along with a graph that charts recent price fluctuations during the past few weeks.

So this is yet another tool where you can see if you want to buy right now or if you should sit on your hands. It allows you ignore the sizzle of sales flyers and have a real sense of confidence whether to buy or not.

Is Decide better than ShopoBot? I don't look at it that way. I look at both being different tools to figure out when to buy, what to buy and how much to pay.
