Entrepreneurial moment: Preventing DUIs

By Clark Howard

In the aftermath of the Atlanta Falcons beating the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football, Falcons running back Michael Turner was flying high. He scored his 51st career touchdown wearing the red and black, and he was understandably in a celebratory mood.

Little wonder then that Turner was arrested after the game in the wee hours of the morning going 97 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone north of Atlanta. He was allegedly drunk and locked up for DUI. Of course, he's innocent until proven guilty.

But this is a guy who earns $7.5 million a year before incentives. Think about how often we hear stories about people in their prime who end up either behind bars, dead, injured, or crippled from drunk driving.

The solution is so simple that there's an entrepreneurial moment here.

I read in Milwaukee's Journal Sentinel about a sister and brother team who started a new service called MYdriver at MyDriverMKE.com.

You call them when you're drunk and they come and pick you up in a pair. One drives your vehicle home. The other trails in a vehicle behind and picks up the first after the drop off, and then they're off to their next pick up.

MYdriver even offers a $50 annual membership that rewards you with discounted rates and priority seating during weekend peak hours!

This particular service is local to the Milwaukee area. But there's a national clearinghouse to find a similar designated driver service near you available through DrinkingandDriving.org.
